I’ve always been interested in working in the health care field. From a young age, I wanted to be a nurse and wanted to help people feel better. My roles in business development have allowed me to connect with patients and work with families to help them through their hard times and difficult decisions. What routines and habits help you prepare for or recover from a day’s challenges? I’m a firm believer that every good day starts with a good plan and, perhaps more importantly, a good strong cup of coffee. My days often start early, with a few to-do lists in hand before heading off to work and connecting with my team for the day. Describe a moment you felt like giving up. Why didn’t you? I’m very driven and often have a hard time asking for help. I have a rare condition, chiari malformation, which causes severe headaches, leading to two brain surgeries in the past. I have never allowed my condition to limit me, but I do have moments where I have to push myself to continue toward my goals. What or who inspires you? I have the honor to work at an inpatient rehabilitation hospital where I see patients each and every day who are recovering from various life-changing illnesses or accidents. The patients that I see working hard each day to get back to being independent inspire me. As a child, did you think you’d be where you are today professionally? As a young girl, I always wanted to be a nurse, so I’m not surprised that I am in health care. Given my personality and that I like to brand myself as an “introverted extrovert,” it still surprises me that I ended up on the sales and marketing side of health care, but I wouldn’t trade my experience for the world. What great mentorship have you received? What made it great? I have been blessed with many great mentors during my career. My mentors have helped to instill lessons that I use every day with my team. They have helped show me that your word is your reputation and that how you treat people is how you will be remembered. What advice do you wish you could give to your younger self? If I were to give my younger self advice, I would say to trust the process, always try to have some fun each day and to keep going, even when things get tough.
