Stacy Bayne, operations manager with Kudzu Medical in Greenville, rocks balance well. Sitting in her car in the parking lot outside a rehabilitation facility, Bayne squeezed in time for the interview for this feature. Her mother was at the facility and Bayne and her husband, Mike, stopped in to wish her a happy birthday – a birthday that falls on the same day as their daughter’s wedding, which was just days away. “Yes, nailing down the details for a black tie wedding in downtown Greenville on a Friday night in the summer has its challenges,” Bayne joked. Added to Bayne’s balancing was a grandson’s impending first birthday. Bayne’s ability to balance everything is rooted in gratitude and a keen awareness that others are balancing events that are far from joyful. “My plate is full, but so many other people’s are, too,” Bayne said. “And they are not celebrating. I’ve been thinking about that a lot.” Summer of 2022 marks Bayne’s fourth year as operations manager for Kudzu Medical, a company dedicated to hiring educated, qualified professionals in the medical field. Prior to Kudzu, Bayne worked as a nurse manager for 21 years with a pediatric practice; she has been a nurse for more than 25 years. “As a nurse, I have been on both sides. I have been staff, and I have been management,” said Bayne. “I’ve walked the walks and that factors into all my decisions.” When she fields compliments about her work with Kudzu, Bayne is quick to look beyond herself, just as she does while she is balancing work life with wedding details, parent care and life as a grandparent. “I appreciate, and I’m always honored, when someone celebrates me, but I lead an inspiring team,” Bayne said. “We are all women, and I’m not sure which one is the glue that holds the company together. Well, we are all the glue.” The “drama-free family” with whom Bayne shares credit for the company’s success includes Steffanie Garcia, senior recruiter; Elizabeth Finger, scheduling manager; Allie Wagner, staffing coordinator; and Mallory Collins, recruiter. Team members describe Bayne using three adjectives: compassionate, appreciative and respectful. “Stacy is an empowering leader who drives the women in our office while giving us the confidence we need to carry out our tasks at work,” said Garcia. “She keeps morale high. … I could never imagine working for anyone else.” Many of the qualities associated with women in general are qualities that unfolded as Bayne described successful women in health care. “They know how to bring the right group together and bond with that team; they can balance a lot of to-dos and they are compassionate,” Bayne said.
